Job Description: Senior Machine Operator
Pay: $22+
Position Overview:
As a Senior Machine Operator you set the standard for performance within the Production department. You are expected to resolve technical and operational challenges while proactively identifying and implementing improvements. This role is integral in ensuring that production processes run efficiently, safely, and in compliance with company standards, even in the absence of supervisory staff. Your ability to adapt to varying production demands is critical in meeting organizational objectives.
Machine Operations and Setup:
- Oversee the setup of production machinery, ensuring all operators configure equipment correctly at the start and end of shifts.
- Conduct initial runs to produce perfect pieces, including performing first evaluations for enrober machines (Caramel, WF, and MC) and moisture checks for pretzels using a moisture meter.
- Notify QA technicians when machinery and production lines are ready for quality evaluations.
Production Maintenance and Support:
- Perform machine changeovers efficiently to minimize downtime while maintaining high-quality output.
- Support production operations across all lines, including Packaging, Wet, and Kitchen, stepping in as needed to ensure continuity.
- Troubleshoot and resolve machine issues promptly, maintaining accurate records of corrective actions taken.
- Train new employees on machine operations, safety protocols, and quality standards, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
Leadership and Oversight:
- Act as a resource and point of support for all Processing Operators.
- Step into supervisory roles as needed, ensuring all areas of production operate smoothly during absences of formal leadership.
- Lead by example in advocating for workplace safety, adherence to food safety guidelines, and maintaining clean and organized work areas.
- Develop and implement new processes to improve efficiency, safety, and product quality.
Compliance and Standards:
- Ensure all GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and allergen programs are followed consistently.
- Maintain clean and sanitary work areas, including the Kitchen, Enrobing, and Packaging departments.
- Verify that all equipment is cleaned, sanitized, and properly reassembled after use.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Monitor production schedules, reports, and material requirements, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Use basic tools and mechanical skills to make necessary adjustments and maintain optimal machine performance.
- Perform all duties with minimal supervision, demonstrating independence and initiative.
- Adapt to flexible scheduling needs, including shutdowns, restarts, and emergency situations.
- Execute other tasks as assigned to support production operations.
Skills & Experience Required:
Essential Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 3-5 years of experience in high-speed packaging and/or processing manufacturing.
- Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience with tools and troubleshooting equipment.
- Certifications in Mechatronics or equivalent experience (preferred).
Technical Expertise:
- Practical experience with HMI controls, industrial packaging machines, sensors, pneumatics, and electrical systems is a plus.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and resolving mechanical issues to minimize downtime.
- Familiarity with performing machine setups, changeovers, and basic maintenance.
Leadership and Communication Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to train and mentor team members effectively.
- Strong aptitude for leadership, including the ability to step into supervisory roles as needed.
- Clear and effective communication skills, with basic proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
Physical and Workplace Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment while wearing required protective equipment.
- Flexibility in scheduling to meet production needs.
